On Saturday, December 9th, the One-act team put on a performance at the Wilcox school building for the public. The goal was to show off our final performance of the year and to raise a little money for new stage lights. The play went very well and everybody was happy with the turn-out. Congratulations to the One-act team on a great year, and good luck next year!
On Monday, December 11 the Wilcox-Hildreth FBLA chapter had a Christmas party. The party was held in the high school business room. There was food, games, and crafts. There was a gift exchange and everyone got a gift. The group also played a very intense game of “Four Santa’s on a Couch.” Everyone had a great time. Thank you to all who came!
Our Ag Communications team placed 1st at our district contest. They will be competing at the State FFA convention in April. The team consists of a news writer (Skye K.), video production (Garrett O.), Opinion Writer (Kathryn P.), and Web designer (Carlie R.). Students attend a mock “news conference” and create their line of communication after attending. The FFA chapter had 15 students compete at the District CDE in Livestock evaluation. Students evaluate cattle, sheep, goats and hogs for desirable traits and place the animals accordingly.Lilian P. sang in the National FFA Chorus. She was among only 85 other members who qualified. While at the Convention she sang at multiple sessions, concerts and other FFA events. Ten students attended National FFA convention in Indianapolis, IN. Students attended sessions, leadership workshops, career development workshops, watched finals in different LSEs, and attended a huge career fair where they could speak with different companies and schools in the ag industry. We also toured the Indianapolis Speedway where the students got to “kiss the bricks”.
If you have not been asked or are interested in ordering a “We Stand” T-shirt for the junior class fundraiser now is the chance! This is a great way to show people we are proud to be Americans and that we honor our country and flag! This first order is due to the school by November 30th. and the orders will arrive by December 15th. There might be a chance for a second order, but if you are interested go ahead and turn the form in to the office with attention Junior Class Sponsors or return to a Junior class member or Sponsor. I am attaching the form below if you have not seen it! Money must be paid in advance.
On November 16, the Junior math class took a day to head down to Lincoln to participate in the UNL’s annual math day competition. The class drove down there the night before and had a fun night of activities that consisted of eating pizza and playing laser tag. The next morning, the group woke up early and headed over to the campus to take a math test. When it was over, the class participated in a quiz bowl. The group placed well and it was a fun day for all!
The One Act team had their last competition on Monday, November 27th. They started out the year with a competition in Minden. At Minden, they placed 3rd out of 7 total teams. Their next performance was for FKC at the Tassel in Holdrege. They did well and placed 4th out of all of the teams in the conference. Their district performance was on Monday, at the Tassel in Holdrege. The winner of the district competition gets to compete at state in Norfolk. The team had a great performance and placed 5th overall! The One Act team will have one more performance at Wilcox on December 9th at 7:30 PM. The public is encouraged to go watch their last showing of “Death of a Dead Guy,” by William L. Bowman, Jr. Great season One Act team!
On November 14, 2017 Pleasanton hosted the FKC clinic. The guest clinician was Mark Harmon, the choir director of Fremont high school. The students rehearsed all day, and then presented a concert at the end of the day.
On Tuesday, November 14th, the high-school quiz bowl team traveled to Arapahoe to participate in their first competition of the season. After playing a match against every team that was present, they ended up with a second place finish. Congratulations to all quiz bowl members and good luck on the rest of your season!
